Courtney Matel, LCMHCA (she/her)
Therapist for women and mothers in Charlotte, NC

Starting therapy can feel intimidating—whether it’s your first time or you’re returning to do deeper work. Drawing from my own experience as a client, I meet women with empathy, curiosity, and a deep respect for what it takes to reach out for support.
I specialize in maternal mental health, relationship challenges, trauma, anxiety, and body image concerns. My approach is trauma-informed and draws from CBT, IFS, DBT, and mindfulness-based practices. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, burnt out, or hopeless—you are in the right place, and you are not alone.
As women, prioritizing our well-being can often feel impossible. The challenges we face in our homes, relationships, and careers are shaped by cultural identity and societal expectations. My goal as a therapist is to support you from the passenger seat—empowering you to take the wheel as the driver of your own life. Healing is a journey with obstacles, detours, and new directions. Together, we will map out your unique needs and goals, providing direction for your treatment and the overall counseling process.
I’ve had the privilege of working with women from a wide range of cultural backgrounds and at different stages of life. My areas of specialty include maternal mental health, infertility and pregnancy loss, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), relationship conflict, attachment styles, depression, and anxiety. I also support clients experiencing obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), ADHD symptoms, and navigating grief and loss. Additionally, I bring a decade of experience addressing harmful beauty standards and helping women heal their relationship with their bodies. (Check out our Body Image Support Group here!)
Lastly, I recognize the deep and lasting impact trauma has on the mind, body, and spirit. Even in the aftermath of profound pain, healing is possible through self-compassion, intentional support, and the courage to reclaim your story. I plan to honor your experiences with respect and without judgment. The question is never “What’s wrong with you?” but rather, “What happened to you?”. Above all, I hope counseling can be a space that gives you permission to feel it all – to be unapologetically human – to come just as you are.
Outside the office, I enjoy getting lost in a fantasy novel, gardening, writing poetry, and spending time with my people and pets! I earned my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Walden University and am currently under supervision by Shawna Lauer, LMFT-QS.
